Activities

within easy reach

We are centrally located for a wide range of activities
and can help arrange any of these trips for you.
Trout fishing beckons from the Motueka River which runs beside us. Step out of the gate, cross the road and you are in brown trout territory. We can arrange a fishing guide for the day if you require it. Close by are the Baton and Wangapeka rivers, also well known for the quality of their trout.

Some guests opt to take a helicopter into the Kahurangi National Park to experience some unique wilderness fishing.

Enjoy a bush bath at the end of the day. After a long day you might want to fire up the bush bath in the garden for a long soak.
Horse Trekking A 20 minute drive along the beautiful Baton Valley takes you to the Western Ranges horse trekking centre. They cater to all levels of riding and you will ride in true back country scenery that will blow your socks off. Western Ranges Horse Trekking

Native beech forest on the track to Mt Arthur hut.

Kahurangi National Park is New Zealand's newest and second largest national park, and it lies just "around the corner". A 20 minute drive takes you to one of the main gateways (Flora car park) where you arrive to classic New Zealand alpine forest with excellent walking tracks.

Mt Athur hut provides a good place for lunch on a 4 hour round trip walk. This relatively unexplored corner of New Zealand makes a good alternative to the popular Abel Tasman.

Abel Tasman National Park, a 40 minute drive away is famous for its stunning coastal track. A popular option is to take a water taxi to the heart of the park, walk for a few hours, then be picked up at a different location for the return home. Alternatively we recommend sea kayaking to see seals and really appreciate the beauty of this national park. Perfect beaches of the Abel Tasman, ideal for kayaking.

Nelson Lakes National Park is one hour away and boasts access to
stunning walking tracks and trout fishing, and, during the
winter season, the Rainbow ski fields.

Painting by your hostess, Heather Wine and Craft The Nelson region is home to a number of international award winning wineries. This is a leisurely way to take in the ambience of the surrounding countryside. Our closest vineyard is the world renowned Neudorf winery.

Nelson also has a range of interesting crafts people including potters, glass workers and carvers. Nelson's Saturday morning market in a good venue to sample many of the local artisans in a single location, or make a trip to their galleries and workshops.

Heather turns out the odd painting like this one, and some very odd greeting cards which you can see if you click the 'greeting cards' link below.

Alternatively many of our guests choose to simply bask in the serenity of our garden and perhaps enjoy a swim or inner-tube float down the Motueka River ... guaranteed to recharge your batteries. Your hostess is a highly experienced inner tuber.
